Building Futures
Since 2014, Kingsmith Builders has partnered with Bow Valley High School, Cochrane High, Springbank Community High School and Rocky View Schools to run the Building Futures program. This is an innovative school year designed to bridge academics and real-life job experience through diversified teaching methods outside of the traditional classroom setting.
Land is set aside for a class of Grade 10 students to build a house from start to finish over the course of the school year. The classroom is located in a converted detached heated garage where the students receive both their formal education, where students can receive up to 50 credits, AND hands-on building experience. Throughout the year the students work on and learn about every stage of home building; from pre-construction to sale. Students learn tangible skills taught first hand by electricians, plumbers, carpenters, and many other professionals – possibly making connections for future apprenticeship opportunities and job insight for post-secondary schooling. Students who struggle learning in traditional ways have flourished in this program and all the students involved leave with experience in teamwork, carpentry, problem solving and a HUGE sense of accomplishment in helping build an actual house.
On top of all this, participating students receive their Residential Construction Site Manager Level 1 academic accreditation once the project is complete, earning valuable credits and life skills in addition to their regular curriculum. By mentoring students and diversifying their educational experience we are investing in a stronger community.
Kimmet Cup
Every year, our President & CEO Craig Wiens, slaps on his skates to
#laceupforagoodcause in the annual Kimmett Cup tournament.
The Kimmet Cup is a pond hockey tournament that pays tribute to the memory of
Lindsay Leigh Kimmett,
a strong supporter of co-ed sports in our community.
The Cup's goal in 2020 was to raise $100,000 for the Children's Wish Foundation
and $25,000 for the Children's Cottage Society.
Our thanks to Joe MacLellan, Jason Baserman, and Reid Kimmett for organizing the tournament and dedicating your time to raise money for so many important charities.
